This short film, commissioned by children’s charity Barnardo’s, features a poem written and performed by spoken word artist and YouTube star Nego True.
The film was made to reach out to young people in the care system and highlight the benefits of the Independent Visitors Network, a scheme that carefully matches young people in care with a positive adult mentor.
Although all children in foster care are legally entitled to an IV, only 3 in 100 children in care in England and Wales are currently matched with a mentor.
“Young people who aren’t able to live with their birth family need to look elsewhere to find someone who can offer comfort and consistency, no matter what life throws at them. I hope we can help inspire more young people in foster care right now to exercise their right to ask for an Independent Visitor and to know there are people out there who are ready to stand by them.”
